Carlin Carpenter

Former head football coach and director of athletics at Bluffton College, Carlin Carpenter retired from coaching in 2002 after winning a Bluffton College school record of 103 games. At the time of his retirement, he was the dean of active Ohio college head football coaches. Carpenter served Bluffton as head football coach for 24 years, and 23 as director of athletics. He is still employed by the university as Professor Emeritus and is a member of the teaching faculty.

A graduate of Defiance (OH) College with a degree in psychology and biology, Carpenter earned his master’s degree at Ohio University. He has held coaching positions at Defiance College, Ohio University, and served as defensive coordinator at Marshall University. Carpenter is a U.S. Navy veteran.

Carpenter is married to Sharon O’Nail. They have two children, Kelly and Jill.
